Getting to Know Shannon
“I have a passion for our District and for doing what is best for kids. I am committed to ensuring that the education of our children is a top priority. I want our children to be the best that they can be, and to be prepared for whatever life holds for them - whether that is going to college, joining the military, or entering the workforce. I also want to ensure that our District remains fiscally responsible.”
I have lived in the District for 33 years. My husband and kids spent their entire school career in NEISD. My husband is a graduate of Churchill High School, and both of my kids graduated from Johnson High School and Texas A&M.
I grew up in Denison, Texas, and attended public schools. I am proud to say that I come from a family of educators. My mom was a public school teacher until she retired. My brother was a public school teacher, coach, principal and now a Superintendent. My sister-in-law and niece are both public school teachers. I am a graduate of Austin College with a BA in Accounting, and I worked in the banking industry as a Compliance Officer and Internal Auditor for eleven years. I became a stay at home mom when my son was born and a volunteer the moment he started Mother’s Day Out. I have been volunteering ever since.
I was elected to the NEISD Board of Trustees in 2012, served as the Vice President from 2014-2016 and have served as the President since 2016.
I have a passion for serving my community, which has given me the opportunity to see and engage with different individuals, groups, campuses, administrations and students. I was a PTA officer for seven years, including President at Tejeda Middle School, Treasurer and VP Ways and Means at Johnson High School, and VP Fundraising at both Roan Forest Elementary and Tejeda. I also was an officer on the North East ISD Council of PTAs for four years, during which time I also served as an officer at Tejeda and Johnson.
I have received the Texas PTA Honorary Life Membership Award, the Texas PTA Extended Service Award, and the National PTA Life Achievement Award. I was the District Outstanding Volunteer for 2009 and 2010 and received the President’s Volunteer Service Award at either the Silver or Gold level from 2006-2012. These service awards are special to me, but my true reward comes from continuously working toward our children having a successful story.
